A Mound Player’s
Cautionary Tale
Mound hockey player Connor Hanson had a close call
on the ice this season, when the 14-year-old ran into a
teammate’s uncapped graphite stick. The stick found its
way under his pads, and through the skin under his armpit.
Hanson and his parents are hoping to warn all hockey
coaches, parents, and players about the danger posed
by an uncapped stick.

Note: While this is the first reported case of this type
injury, there is no difference between a broken stick and
an uncapped one, especially a stick with a hollow core.
Both should be an ENFORCED equipment violation.
