Women’s College Hockey

After a weekend break, the Minnesota Gopher women are back in action this weekend in a road series against the Bemidji State Beavers. This game has the makings of a defensive battle.

Friday night’s game starts at 7:07pm. Saturday’s game begins at 2:07pm.

In the pair’s 40-game history, the Gophers hold a 36-1-3 advantage, although BSU won the last meeting between the two.

FINAL SCORE: MOUND 2, ORONO 0

The Mound Girls Varsity hockey team notched their second victory of the season tonight with a 2-0 victory over rival Orono. Mound freshman Amber Gage earned the shut-out with 9 saves for the Whitehawks, while Orono goalie Erin Johnson-Buscemi kept this from becoming a very lopsided contest.

In period two, after a series of penalties that had Mound on a 4-3 advantage at one point, all but one of the penalties had expired when Kali Holst scored an unassisted power-play goal to make the score 2-0 White Hawks. The White Hawks outshot the Spartans 11-5 in the period.

In the third period, the White Hawks outshot the Spartans 14-4, and spent a lot of time in front of the Spartan net, but Johnson-Buscemi was solid, and the game ended 2-0.
