The Minnesota Gopher women’s hockey team dropped their preseason opener 4-2 Friday to the Minnesota Whitecaps.
The Gophers Becky Wacker intercepted a pass in the Whitecap zone, and scored unassisted at 1:18.
The Whitecaps tied the game in the second period on a power play, and former Gopher Natalie Darwitz scored the eventual game-winner at 18:46 in the second.
Minnesota’s Erica McKenzie scored at 4:05 to make the score 3-2, but the Whitecaps ended the scoring with a goal at 16:20.
Brittony Chartier had 24 saves for the Gophers.
Former Minnesota State standout Shari Vogt had 29 saves for the Whitecaps.
The Gophers open their season Friday October 6 in the Easton Shootout at Ridder Arena.
