After the recent loss of Gopher Phil Kessel to Boston, the U of M hockey program wasted no time filling the open spot, announcing that Jay Barriball from Prior Lake will join the maroon-and-gold for the 2006-2007 season.
Barriball, finished his hockey career at Academy of Holy Angels last year, and then joined the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede for the remainder of their season. Barriball scored five goals and seven assists in thirteen USHL games. He was drafted 203rd overall in the 2006 NHL draft by the San Jose Sharks.
In his senior season at Holy Angels, Barriball had 28 goals and 38 assists in 25 games, finished 18th in the state in scoring, and was a candidate for Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey honors.
During his junior season with the Stars, he added 32 goals and 49 assists, and helped Holy Angels win the Minnesota State Class AA title.
Gophers Mike Carman, Jeff Frazee, and Eric Johnson are also Holy Angels alumni.
