Varsity Hockey
FINAL: MOUND 5, HUTCHINSON 1

The Whitehawk hockey team posted their first season victory Friday night, with a convincing 5-1 victory over the Hutchinson Tigers at Hutchinson arena.

The Whitehawks got a hat-trick from senior Captain Danny Grady and a goal from senior Captain Erik Lee in notching their first victory. Zach Van Dyne was in net for the Whitehawks.

The Whitehawks started flat and the pace of the game was slow and deliberate. The Tigers killed a tripping penalty at 2:54, and the Whitehawks killed a high-sticking penalty at 6:40. Mound picked up another high sticking penalty at 12:15 and were two seconds shy of killing it off, when Dan Grady picked up the puck in the neutral zone, split two defenders, and found the top-left corner for a short-handed goal and a 1-0 Whitehawk lead.

The first period ended Whitehawks 1, Tigers 0.

In the second period, Hutchinson’s Andy McPherson scored at 5:42 to tie the game 1-1. Mound responded with good intensity and controlled the puck much of the period in the Hutch zone.

Whitehawk Dan Grady picked up his second goal of the night and eventual game-winner at 7:03 to give Mound a 2-1 lead.

At 8:31, sophomore Jack Thaler made it 3-1 Whitehawks with his first prep goal on an assist from Matt Myers.

After a Tiger penalty for interferance at 11:53, the Whitehawks Dan Grady picked up the hat-trick and power play goal on an assist from Cory Kasprzak at 13:10.

The second period ended Whitehawks 4, Tigers 1.

Junior Varsity Hockey
FINAL: MOUND 4, HUTCHINSON 3

The Mound JVs built a 4-1 lead Friday night, and fought off a rally in the third period to defeat the Hutchinson Tigers 4-3 at Hutchinson arena.

The Whitehawks Tyler Wright made it 1-0 with a goal at 2:13 in the first period.

Trevor Chase scored a short-handed goal on a slap shot from the blue line at 8:57 to make it 2-0 Whitehawks.

The period ended Mound 2, Hutchinson 0.

In the second period, Hutchinson cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal at 2:47.

Mound responded quickly. At 3:30 in the second period Scott Graphenteen scored an unassisted goal to make the score 3-1 Whitehawks.

Just a minute later at 4:14, Sam Daggett scored an unassisted goal to make the score 4-1 Whitehawks.

The period ended Mound 4, Hutchinson 1.

Hutch scored goals at 8:11 and 12:34 in the third period to make the score 4-3.

Hutch pulled their goalie with 1:30 to play, but a penalty for too many men on the ice killed the advantage, and the game ended 4-3.

The Whitehawk varsity gave up two power-play goals, and two goals late in the third period to fall 4-2 to the Shakopee Sabers Tuesday night at Shakopee Arena.
