NHL: Cracking Down

Posted in: Uncategorized — tns @ 10:26 am

In an effort to improve the game, the NHL vowed to
“clean up” some of the bad habits on the ice this
seasony – obstruction, hooking, holding, and
interferance.

So far, it looks like they are making good on that
promise.

In three games Friday night, there were penalties
resulting in 63 power plays. In the Wild’s 3-2 loss
to Phoenix, all five goals were power-play goals.

“These habits are going to have to be broken quick,
or else you’ll be in the penalty box”, Wild Center
Brian Rolston said. “You can’t win games like that.”

NHL: Wild Return to Minnesota

The Wild returned to the ice Saturday night, defeating
the Phoenix Coyotes 7-0, in front of a capacity crowd
of 18,064 at Xcel Energy Center.

The Coyotes defeated Minnesota 3-2 Friday night in
Phoenix.

Former Gopher Keith Ballard played his first
game in a Coyotes jersey. Former Gopher standout
Jeff Taffe also took the ice for Phoenix.

In Buffalo, former Gopher Thomas Vanek scored
two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as
the Sabers defeated the Capitals 3-2.

BOYS HOCKEY: Good News

Posted in: Uncategorized — tns @ 7:36 pm

We don’t normally make it a point to share group emails with the world, but this is good news, and I’m sure the coach will not mind. Read on!

Good morning, everyone!

I have some exciting news for our program. I’ve brought in a new assistant at the HS level that should provide a wonderful benefit for our entire association. His name is Dick Emahiser and he will be coming to us from Eden Prairie HS. For those of you that are not familiar with Dick, I’ll briefly summarize some of his accomplishments below:

  • 30 years as a Minnesota HS coach, including
  • Head coach at both Chaska and Eden Prairie
  • Longtime assistant at Eden Prairie
  • Assistant at Edina under Willard Ikola
  • Coaching experience at the national level, including:
  • National Select 17 Assistant Coach
  • Minnkota Select 16 Head Coach at several national festivals
  • International Ice Hockey Federation Select 15 Developmental Coach – Czech Republic
  • Several prestigious awards, including:
  • USA Hockey Developmental Coach of the Year – 1996
  • Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year – 1998
  • USA Hockey Walter Yaciuk Award for Dedicated Service and Outstanding Contribution – 2002
  • Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association – Dave Peterson Award for Contribution & Dedication to Minnesota Hockey

The list above contains just a few of Dick’s accomplishments. He’s written many of the manuals our coaches receive from USA Hockey and been heavily involved in many of this country’s skill development initiatives over the past 25 years.

Obviously, I’m excited to have Dick coming aboard and I know he’s pumped to be coming in. He made it clear to me when we were talking about this possibility that he was looking for a home in a smaller program where he could spend the next ten years and help to develop something special. I hope you’ll be excited about this as well. It’s going to be a great thing for Whitehawk hockey!!

    Have a great day!

    Paul

    Welcome Coach Emhiser!
    Go Whitehawks!
