MINNESOTA PRIDE WIN GOLD

Former Mound-Westonka Hockey Association skaters Matt Cosgriff and Philip Dunn celebrated a Gold medal with their Minnesota Pride teammates at the 2005 Can Am Hockey Tournament in Lake Placid, New York in April.

The Pride is a team of all-star skaters from across the state. They are coached by Minnesota Made Hockey Coach Bernie McBain.

Finishing 4-1 in the tournament, the Pride defeated teams from Nova Scotia (2), Ontario Canada, and Staaten Island NY to take gold.

Cosgriff had a goal and had seven assists in the tournament.

Both will return to varsity action as Juniors next season. Dunn plays for Mound. Cosgriff plays for Breck.

Congratulations! Pride on Ice is alive and well.

TEAM USA: Wendell MVP, USA wins Championship

The USA won their first-ever World Championship Saturday, downing Canada 3-1 in a dramatic shoot-out.

Former Gopher standout Krissy Wendell, championship MVP, scored the winning goal.

The US is the first non-Canadian team to win the title.






GOPHERS: Kessel Signs Letter of Intent

The University of Minnesota men’s hockey program announced the signing of Madison Wisconsin recruit Phil Kessel to a National Letter of Intent.

Kessel scored six points in seven games during last year’s World Junior Championship in Grand Forks.

Last season, Kessel played for the US Under-18 team.

Kessel played only 38 games, but led the team with 77 points (41 goals, 36 assists), including 14 power-play goals, 4 short-handed goals, and 9 game-winners.

Kessel will join Breck standout Blake Wheeler this season in maroon and gold.






Update: Merger with Watertown

While there has been nothing written about the merger, several sources indicate that the merger between Mound and Watertown is a done deal.

Several Watertown players will be allowed to open-enroll to Crow River / Delano.
