The Mound Bantam A team skated to a 4-4 tie Sunday at Hutchinson arena. Mound dominated much of the game and pounded all three pipes, but could not find the net.

Mound skated to an early 2-0 lead. Hutch cut the lead to 2-1 early in the third. Mound quickly countered to make it 3-1. The teams traded goals again, and the score was 4-2 with just under three minutes to play.

A scuffle in front of the net brought the referees into the action, and they tagged only the Mound skater, giving Hutch a man advantage. The Tigers converted to make the game 4-3.

With under a minute remaining, a puck sliding sideways in front of the net hopped on edge, made a hard left turn, and the game was tied 4-4.

Tuesday night, Mound travels to St. Michael.

The Gopher men’s hockey team split their only series of the year with University of Minnesota-Duluth this weekend with a 4-3 victory Friday night, and a 3-2 loss Saturday night at Mariucci arena.

Friday night,the Gophers defense played well, posting two goals and three helpers. The Gophers built a 4-1 third period lead, and then held on during a late UMD surge to earn a 4-3 victory. The victory ended a 4-game skid at Mariucci Arena.

The Bulldogs outshot the Gophers 32-31.

Saturday night, the Bulldogs scored first and never fell behind in a 3-2 contest. The Gophers could not find the net, and never overcame the Bulldogs spirited play. Evan Schwabe scored the game-winner for UMD.

UMD out-shot the Gophers 45-33.

The Gophers (19-10-0) end January 4-6.

Next weekend they travel to Wisconsin, for a border-battle series against the third-ranked Badgers (19-6-1).

The Whitehawk boys varsity lost a 5-1 decision to Benilde St. Margaret’s today in St. Louis Park.

The Mound Westonka girls varsity overpowered Litchfield 6-0 Saturday afternoon at Pond Arena.

The Whitehawks tallied once in the first period, twice in the second,and three times in the third.

Ellie Dahl, Carissa Ketcher(2), Kelsey Ketcher and Taylor Schluter(2) scored for the Whitehawks.

Laura Annen, Brianne Clark, Lisa Fleming, Sarah Hamlin(3), Kelsey Ketcher, Carissa Ketcher, and Katie Swanson had helpers for the Whitehawks.

Alysha Shroeder made five saves and picked up the shut-out.

Mound had 49 shots on goal.

The Whitehawk Girls finish the regular season 14-10-2 and begin Sectional play at home against Benson-Hancock-Morris, Wednesday, February 3, at 7:00pm.

Pond Arena hosts Section 2A play Thursday, February 3 and Saturday, February 5.
