USA Wins Junior Gold
IIHF World Junior Championship
USA 6, Canada 5 [OT]
Team USA and Coach Dean Blaise celebrated victory and a gold
medal in the World Junior Championship tonight, with a 6-5
overtime thriller over Team Canada.
The USA gave up two early leads and switched goaltenders
in the second period, before building a two-goal lead for
most of the third period. With four minutes remaining,
Canada went on the power-play after a goalie interference
penalty, and scored twice in 95 seconds to force overtime.
In overtime, team USA Captain John Carlson scored the game
winner to claim the hardware.
Next year, the US will defend their championship in Buffalo NY.
